The following information MUST be included in order for the Mississippi Insurance Department to be able to properly process your complaint:
- Your name and your relationship to the insured.
- Daytime telephone number
- Name of insured.
- Insured’s address name, address, city, zip code, and phone number.
- The name of the insurance company with which the insured is having a problem.
- Address of the insurance company with which the insured is having a problem.
- Type of insurance, policy number, claim number, and date of loss.
- Description of complaint
- The form is signed and dated.
What happens when we receive your complaint:
Once we receive your complaint, it will be assigned to one of our Consumer Services Specialist, who will review it and take the necessary steps to resolve the matter. Please allow us 20 working days to contact the company or agency that is the subject of your complaint. We will notify you in writing of our findings.
What We Can Do
- We work to facilitate communication between you and your insurance company.
- We can investigate claim-handling delays, claim denials, non-renewals and cancellations, and other insurance-related disputes.
- We can review documentation provided to ensure compliance with Mississippi insurance laws.
- We are available to assist in helping consumers understand their insurance policy.
- Due to our limited jurisdiction, we may recommend courses of action you can take to resolve your issue. Though we cannot act as your legal counsel or representative.
- We can send your surprise or balance billing complaint to medical providers and facilities in Mississippi.
What Is Outside Our Authority
- We are a regulatory agency not a court of law. Therefore we cannot decide questions of fact, nor provide legal advice.
- We cannot interfere in a pending lawsuit.
- We cannot order a company to pay or claim or issue a refund.
- We cannot determine value of property nor establish who was negligent in an auto accident.
- We are not medical professionals. Therefore, we cannot determine medical necessity.
- We cannot recommend one insurer or agent over another.
- Our regulatory purview or jurisdiction is limited. We cannot address issues we can’t legally enforce.
- We cannot identify what company a particular person or business has insurance coverage with.
