The Length of Service Award Program (LOSAP) is a benefit program created by the Mississippi Legislature to recognize and reward the dedicated service of volunteer firefighters. Through LOSAP, eligible volunteer firefighters can earn up to $500 per year for their years of active service with a volunteer department.
LOSAP: About Enrollment
To participate in LOSAP, each volunteer firefighter must complete the official Enrollment Form before January 1, 2026, to claim prior years of service. Once submitted, the form is routed to the firefighter’s Chief, who verifies and certifies the service years. Chiefs are responsible for ensuring accurate records so that benefits are credited properly.
Each firefighter should submit one form per department service period. If service was entirely in a single department, only one form is needed. If a firefighter served in multiple departments during different time periods, a separate form is required for each. Overlapping service periods across departments is counted as a single submission, and duplicate or overlapping forms will not be accepted.
